Glad to wear glasses

I spent  Sunday afternoon and evening titleing the remaining few pieces of work for CAL.  3 days to go......
Some heads I have titles for before I start.  Some I know what they feel like to me but don't have the words so have to hunt them down.  Some I don't even know who or what they are and I spend hours trying to tease some information out of them to get me thinking about a title.  It's one of my favourite parts of the process but it takes time.  I always stumble across other interesting word formations, quotes or ideas - so it  feels like as I'm finishing off this body of work I am simultaneously starting another. These five will be coming to London with me.

Walcot Reclamation

Monday was spent in a very very cold indeed place. We ate chips and drunk tea at strategic moments and walked round and round finding different places to sit down (the best one was the pub with the fire).  This was the auction at Walcot Reclamation which has gone bust. It was my first auction - very exciting! And today I  find out what it is that I actually bought! (Lot 409 was a very large collection of mainly wooden things, including a work table which we didn't notice at the viewing)

good shape

We photographed the new work last night and I took photos on my little camera as we went along - it struggled with the lights and bleached out the detail but really emphasised the shape of each piece.  This top beardy man with no face is my favourite.

Bristled

No time for posting but lots to post! So doing a quick catch up this morning. Here is one of the pieces for the show.

10 Feb 2010

Been working my way through jobs for the show.  Unpacked a kiln and got my invites ready to post - I really like these little production line jobs. I did the faceblind test yesterday (which I heard about on  Radio 4 ) Seems I'm average or not brilliant like everyone else at recognising faces!

lastly tonight .......a farewell to Lucienne Day who died a few days ago.  I love her work and  always get something out of revisiting it ....we have a Night and Day tea-towel in a frame in our hallway, the sun changes colour throughout the day.
I'm firing my last few pieces for CAL which starts in {less than} three weeks time!  I'll have several new heads and faces, so I'm really looking forward to spending some time with them. Just finalising the stand layout at the moment which is great fun -  messing about with furniture.  I was going to use the new chair but I think the new stool may win out. More info here about visiting the show, other exhibitors and all that stuff.

Kenny the gone wrong tiger

I spent the morning thinking, planning and going through my old sketchbooks.  One has a card from a show we visited at The Photographers' Gallery.  In the exhibition was a picture of Kenny  by Taryn Simon I seem to have made him happier than in real life, he has great head markings but that doesn't make him right.

I want to visit The Museum of Everything. I'd forgotten all about it then stumbled upon an article in Modern Painters.

The long wait is over

one day's junk hunting

Clare E Rojas/Peggy Honeywell

We went on a quick school night adventure last week to the Ikon in Birmingham to hear Peggy Honeywell aka Clare E  Rojas sing in her velvety voice surrounded by her paintings, great to see them in real life, some are so beautifully finely detailed - we will have to go back to have a non private view calm look.  Adam came along because he has nothing else to do  but then met his old mates from the east.
