a washing away a face

This is what happens to the heads that don't make it into the kiln.
I reclaim the clay but start by washing off their paint -  well, washing them away entirely because they are the paint. I like this process, some good effects occur, the dry clay comes back to life and as the layers of paint dissolve interesting edges, patterns and textures turn up.  It seems to take a a while to get rid of the eyes. It's a very particular sensation -  cradling a face in running water and making it disappear.
