in between bit

I always really like this in between bit. The cold snap just before Christmas brought redwings to the garden and yesterday we saw a sparrow-hawk from the house.  I was very glad of my (new) binoculars. Moody Blue (above) has gone to a new home so I hope he is a bit happier.  Things that delight part one - Matt Sewell's bird badges - thanks JT

treasures and an early Christmas in Devon

A drive to Devon at dawn, watching the sunrise over the Somerset levels. An illuminated tree, discovering a great bric a brac shop in Torrington, the compulsory trip to South Molton recycling centre, turkey and trimmings, hats, crackers, the name on the head game, Elf and a walk in the woods.

Ignazio Morello and the birds of Christmas

I've been adding some birds to some Oxfam Christmas cards that we bought in Glastonbury - mainly focusing on long tailed tits and arctic something-or-others - here's my one person production line and very enjoyable it was too!
AND AND AND I must share this.....Ignazio's blog has so many beautiful drawings and thoughts of interest please take a look! He's just drawn a four eyed boy and this lady is brilliant.

Hunkering down

I went to take the cat out this morning and got caught up with the sogginess and warmth of the garden. There was mist in the dip of the valley & our white bird has landed on the ground and made a nest. The lawn isn't at its best but I love it's winter coat - a hunkered down patchy pale mossiness.

I've also been sorting out my papers and general things on desk....finding scraps with names on {studiomama} and cards bought but not sent {emma mcClure} and names of artists that delight me that I must remember {jenny hart, ellie evans, freddie robins, stephen bird}

Persons

Some of my favourite pieces from this year -'what do I stand for', 'losing my bloom', 'the reluctant woman', 'walrus', 'something's up' and 'hearing things'. I feel particularly attached to this first person.

Music and cakes

Had an invite from Charlotte for the Clockwork open studio weekend this weekend {Southwell Road, London, SE5 9PG} - with this charming piano painting slipped in the email envelope!

g l o w and the dusk display

Wild weather today on the hill.  Rainbows, wind, rain and then sun so bright it made our window glow!  At the moment I'm, working on several new sculptures for  Ceramic Art London, at the Royal College in February and these three people have turned up.
//////*//////////////////////*//////////////////*/////////
We spent the weekend in Glastonbury and went to see the starlings doing their dusk display at  Ham Wall reserve in the Somerset Levels.  A mass of starlings flew overhead, so we followed, on foot  - running to the viewing site and ended up with front row seats for the most amazing spectacle.  Thousands and thousands streamed into the reed beds, making the reeds black with birds. I have no photos, just the feeling of looking up and seeing a murmuration of starlings sweeping low overhead.

Frosty Morning

It was beautifully cold morning yesterday at the studio, my first official day of touching clay.
Thanks to AT, HT and JT for all your hard work on my behalf.
