Look at this little Nordic fella - don't know where he came from.

Barnaby Barford - Damaged Goods

I found Barnaby Barford's animation 'Damaged Goods' this afternoon and have watched in twice in quick succession.  He showed us a clip at last years Idea and Act symposium - the finished piece is well worth a watch - the accompanying music really adds to the story.  My favourite bit is the disrupted band who re-assemble and do a vigourous march/jig.
I've been working on my Captain Cook inspired head today  - here he is......

Person-cat

I spent most of the weekend enjoying the weather, gardening and looking for new plants to garden with. Back to the studio today to see how the person-cat (top photo) has dried and to ponder whether I should continue with it.
The middle photo shows 'A good home should be made not bought'   - I'm wondering whether there are more lessons to be learnt from birds!  Today I saw the pair of robins for the second time on Perfect View.  They were chatting and swapping food. JT says there were four jackdaws on our bird table but I keep missing them.
I've been listening to several 'Start the Week' s today while I work - there was one particularly interesting programme  with Richard Wilkinson the co-author of 'Spirit level - why more equal societies almost always do better'

Old Press

I meant to post this just after CAL so it is old news now but The Times and Times Online featured one of my recession pieces in the City Diary section. I liked seeing my work on the same pages as the FTSE etc.

No connection

Today I've made a person cat, some robins and Captain Cook.  No connection.
Had a great weekend - JT and I delivered a collection of work to Atelier Abigail Ahern in Islington, a rather lovely place with a dark, brooding interior that shows off artwork and design pieces to their best!
We then then went on to The Photographers' Gallery near Oxford Circus to look at the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize (and eat cake). Taryn Simon's pieces stayed with me, especially the photo of poor old 'Kenny' the gone wrong white tiger. We also saw Guy Tillim's new work - amazing images of the architecture of colonial and post-colonial Africa.

There's no such thing as can't

Just home from a great day at Corsham Court, working in the post grad ceramics studio.  I've spent the day planning, exploring and drawing men with bad hair - or good hair -  for drawing at least Also been reading Handmade Nation and getting excited about the DIY makers movement in the US.....and all of this while listening for the honk of peacocks.

Here are some images of Corsham Court inside and out - the house is full of delights and oddities, red doorstops, abandoned bells and fantastic views whichever way you look.

sad beautiful thing

Look at this beautiful creature - she (I'm calling her she as she seems like a she to me but she may not be) is by Ester Svensson - Ester's fascination with birds keeps me going back.

CAL 2009

Here's some images of my stand at Ceramic Art London - I had a great fair,  thanks to everyone who dropped by!
