Key players and a folk leaning

Here are some of my drawings, drawn while watching one of the many picking-over-the-recession programmes on the BBC. Spot the key players.......

[as I type I'm having Circulus - my body is made of sunlight - played at me. I'm a slightly reluctant audience, but less so with each playing!]

hairy ladies

Just been exploring constant gatherer's blog and came across a link to >>>>>this quite amazing archive of hairy ladies.

e m p t y pages

Here's my new sketchbook cover, done at the start of November, I've only just ventured inside. It's another version of '9' drawn from a photo of us 2 at my brother's wedding. {I'd be happy doing a succession of covers and leaving the filling of the pages to someone else}

MOUSE and the move to serifs

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I went to London last week and visited the new ceramics galleries at the v&a and was unexpectedly moved by the whole experience, especially the dark dark middle room!  Even better we spotted a mouse in the v&a cafe, getting fat off the high quality crumbs.  [Just now I've decided to abandon trying to get my text in these bits to look someway the same each time. Not sure why I've restricted myself .....so from now on variety it is, even small variety! As it is I've gone over to the serif side! Ben International will be proud of me, a few short weeks ago I said I hated the things]

a place for everything

Today has been my first proper day in the studio, everything is now in it's proper place and I was able to actually DO SOME WORK - I drew this boy.....

raindrops on my window

We've been busy building the studio internal structure all weekend, it's all very exciting and looks great -  I'll post some pictures later -  but this photo sums up the weekend.

Marcus Oakley

JT gave me this great little Marcus Oakley book from the Spike Island book fair.
I'm a big fan of his simple approach to portraits.

Sean's gone

'Sean Shone' went to a new home last week, I think he'll be really happy there. The week has flown. I've been sorting studio and office and all but also managed to escape and see Big River Man and Stuart Lee. Drawing on our knowledge learnt at the tree day in May (I've mainly forgotten my knowledge) we tried to identify the fallen leaves as we walked up the hill for Sunday breakfast - so many leaves from the gales!  Jt was much better than me. I was hoping to spot a Ginkgo biloba because that's the only one I know without reservation.

A smile or a grimace

Really liked your suggestion Ana, hadn't occurred to me at all, I like it when that happens - not the not occurring but the different seeing! Anyway I had a go yesterday when I was wrapping up presents and these two scary ladies turned up!

Envelope

How exciting to get a hand patterned envelope through the post. This was sent to me by an illustration student Alec Stevens, who I chatted with at Origin.  He's used his thumb/finger print all over the back.

TAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anger Management

'A not bad hair day' and 'anger management' below have gone off to Oriel Myrddin in Carmarthen for their show 'A winter's tale'.....Christmas always brings out a bit of anger....

Ben International

Ben Hamilton Chambers (my lovely book designer) has morphed almost seamlessly into the world wide up to the minute finger on the pulse etc etc phenomenon that will be Ben International!  I know at least one Ben who is very jealous that BHC got there first with this name, many a Ben may well feel the same....quality.

Lovely old stuff

Some images of my scavenging finds -  thrown out and junk shop furniture, much coveted letraset, a beautifully blue Cambridge duplicate book that's a bit older than me and a cash book from 1886!  I'm using the cash book to chart sales of my digitally produced and in the main electronically purchased book!
